In Facsimile, most sapient beings are able to tap into their Legend and manifest desires and wishes that operate on their own rules and limitations.
Legend
A character’s Legend is the embodiment of a being or concept from a story, myth, or legend. It defines the rules on how Oneirum interacts with them, through their magic or through Oneirum. The Legend will lead into the rules and limitations of the character’s magic, or to put it another way, the Legend inspires their magic.
Humans are born with great Legends of stories that have been retold and respected. They can either be existing, real-world legends (The Hearth and the Salamander, Metropolis, The Angel Metatron) or legends created by players and established in the world (The Soldier’s Lament, The Witch, Morgana, All One Spark). Humans can also be born without Legends, rendering them unable to use magic.
If you see a Legend worth mentioning here, let staff know!
Synthetics are not able to use magic at all, but they may use their own form of casting.
Aberrants use magic like in humans, albeit they typically have more potent magic. Their Legends are also less well-known, inconclusive or sometimes even completely mangled, the original meaning of the tale lost.
Note: Just for fun, it is possible for some legendary character’s story to be retold and respected so much that a later character can be born with a Legend that embodies that legendary character.
Synthetic Magic
Synthetics cannot be born with Legends, and do not have access to latent Oneirum. However, they are capable of using the active Oneirum in their fuel cells to cast magic, which is the same Oneirum that rebuilds and maintains their build. For Synthetics, using magic can often involve a much bigger price to pay.
