There are lots of ways to mutate into horrifying monsters nowadays. There’s a pretty big industry in preventing it, and Arkworth has the biggest stake in it, known as Storm Panacea.
Nanotriage
Medical injection that rapidly accelerates the early stages of wound healing. Made of fast-acting but low-lifespan nanomachines.
Nanotriage does not accelerate the entire process of healing, making it an ineffective treatment. It is more for situations where rapid blood loss can lead to death, or infection is a big threat (in The Outside or the Warrens for example).
Storm Panacea
Unconstrained Oneirum exposure causes Storm Disease, which is bad for living. Storm Panacea cures many afflictions, though many contractors use this as a preventative measure against Storm Disease.
Sick, it is also a highly addictive substance that can create dependencies. Go Team!
Nobody knows how this Storm Panacea is produced, but it’s practically a miracle drug so you’re doing nobody any favors questioning its origin.
Mutagen
In the other direction, Arkworth Mutagen can effectively develop Storm Disease. In fact, it goes a step further, as it can grant powers outside of the scope of one’s Legend. The mutations and symptoms that result from this are characteristic of Storm Disease, with the added caveat that use of Mutagen can turn beings into chimeras of mismatched limbs and body parts. The resulting abilities from Mutagen tend to be more concentrated and powerful than birth given abilities for human Legends and Aberrants.
Since Mutagen operates under the laws of Storm Disease, it is not uncommon for Mutagen users to go insane or lose lucidity using it.
In microdoses and certain applications, Mutagen can be used in similar ways to Nanotriage, reversing wounds or aging. Sometimes, it is used for bio-prosthesis.
